Chi Tau Epsilon Honor Society – the society honoring performing artists in dance – was chartered at Texas Christian University in April 1967 by Miss Carol Bloom, a ballet major, and faculty members Barbara Macklem (later Copeland) and Fernando Schaffenburg. The preamble of the XTE Constitution states that the society is established “…in order to develop dance talent and the art of dancing, to honor outstanding students in the field of dance, and to provide them with the opportunity for service in their field…” Since that time, members of XTE across the country have risen as leaders, modeling excellence in performance in all dance disciplines, choreography, improvisation and dance studies.
